    From the founders

    Everything you need to know

When was your company founded & where is it located?

Our company was founded in Stuttgart, Germany in 2019. Initially established as a web agency, we later pivoted to become a Software as a Service (SaaS) startup.

What are past projects, failures, or successes you’ve had in your career?

Our journey to founding caisy is an engaging one. My co-founder, Moritz, and I were Computer Science students, and I was running a small web agency to finance my university living expenses. An opportunity arose to pitch for a significant enterprise client, LEICHT Küchen AG, one of Germany's largest premium kitchen manufacturers. I invited Moritz to join me on this mission, with the understanding that if we won the pitch, we would establish a larger web agency.
We pitched our services on a Friday, from 12 pm to 3 pm, and by 5 pm we received the call: we had secured the job. Although we were thrilled, we soon faced a new challenge - we needed to figure out how to deliver on our promise, as we had limited experience managing such a large project.
Financing was another substantial hurdle. Banks turned down our loan requests, so I turned to my father for a loan. Instead of providing a loan, he offered to invest in our company in. With his past experience of building three companies and successfully selling one, he took on the role of CFO.
With the financing issue resolved, we focused on delivering the website. However, we faced challenges with the headless CMS we were using at the time, Prismic, as it didn't offer the functionalities we needed. We made the decision to swap it out for Contentful. The website launch was delayed by a month, but ultimately, we successfully managed to relaunch it. To this day, LEICHT remains our client. We even had the opportunity to relaunch their website again, this time swapping out Contentful for caisy.
During the LEICHT launch, we met Johannes, who runs the company Doorboost. His input significantly accelerated our growth, and I'm grateful to have met him. He has been one of the key influences that have propelled us to where we are today.
Through our exchange with Johannes and our own experiences, we realized that our frustrations with the limitations of existing headless solutions were not unique to us. This realization led us to pivot towards creating our own solution - caisy.

    What is your team size?

Our team consists of 12 members, although the roles within our team are fluid rather than strictly defined. While we have members who primarily focus on certain areas, many of our team members contribute in multiple areas, such as developers being involved in product decisions. The approximate breakdown is as follows:
    7 Developers
    1 Public Relations/Marketing
    2 Support Staff
    1 Sales
    1 Design
This dynamic structure allows us to adapt quickly and work collaboratively across different aspects of our business.

    Are you funded or bootstrapped?

Our company has benefited from both funding and bootstrapping. We received strategic funding in January 2022, which has been instrumental in expanding our network and financing our product development. However, we have also maintained profitability and continue to self-finance through bootstrapping.

What 3rd party tools is your product critically dependent on?

We dont use any 3rd Party API.

    Where is customer data stored?

    Frankfurt, Germany

    What is your current MRR?

    Do not wish to share

How many customers do you have today?

    We host about 3k Projects.

What’s the origin of the idea for your product?

Back in 2018, my good friend Moritz (now our genius CTO) and I were a couple of computer science students running a small digital agency. We experimented with various headless CMS platforms, but it didn't take long to realize none of them quite hit the mark for our needs as developers or as an agency managing multiple projects.
So, Moritz and I had a lightbulb moment: "Let's create our own dream Headless CMS!" And just like that, caisy came to life!

What problem is your product solving and how?

Our product, caisy, addresses two significant challenges we encountered with other headless CMS platforms.
Firstly, we noticed that many of the headless CMS platforms were not user-friendly for our clients, which led to an increased demand for support. They were largely form-based and difficult to navigate.
Secondly, we felt unsupported by the CMS providers, despite driving revenue to them. Managing multiple clients was cumbersome due to an inefficient structure, leading to issues like frequent logins and logouts, password hunting, and difficulty in finding a platform that met the diverse needs of different projects. Some platforms were only suitable for small projects, while others were too expensive for smaller ventures.
To address these issues, we developed caisy, a headless CMS that is both user-friendly and versatile. It is designed to accommodate projects of all sizes and is priced affordably to cater to businesses big and small.
What truly sets caisy apart is not only its user-friendly design, scalability, and affordability, but also its unique multi-client capabilities. This feature allows users to manage multiple clients and duplicate projects in a time-efficient manner, streamlining processes and significantly improving productivity. Thus, caisy provides an unparalleled solution in the CMS space, combining simplicity, versatility, and efficiency.

What’s the #1 thing you’re looking to gain from the AppSumo campaign?

The primary goal we're seeking to achieve from the AppSumo campaign is to boost awareness for our CMS, caisy. We are particularly focused on generating feedback, enhancing virality, and encouraging word-of-mouth promotion. We believe these elements are crucial in enhancing our brand visibility and user engagement.

What are your plans with the customers, cash, and learnings from the AppSumo campaign?

Our intention following the AppSumo campaign is to leverage the momentum gained. We plan to use the customer feedback, cash infusion, and lessons learned to further enhance our product and service offerings. The next major milestone on our horizon is launching on Product Hunt later this year. Furthermore, we aim to expand our growth within agency markets, continuing to improve and adapt caisy based on our users' needs and feedback.

Any other details to clarify the deal

Our product, caisy, is available to customers worldwide with no specific country restrictions. However, it's important to note that our payment processing is handled by Stripe. As such, any limitations imposed by Stripe on certain countries would apply to the purchase of our product. In essence, if Stripe doesn't support a particular country, then customers from that country would unfortunately not be able to purchase a plan due to this payment processing limitation.
